This 4.5 hours exam has a 12% pass rate, here's how AI aced it in 20 minutes

This is one of the most notorious exams in the U.S., having a lower pass rate than both the bar exam and medical school entrance admissions.
Yes—if you work in import compliance, you’ve likely sat through one of these before, and you know just how hard they are.
Leading AI models like GPT or Gemini tend to score anywhere between 50% and 60% on CBLE exams, and you know that a 75% is required to pass—which still doesn’t necessarily guarantee you an easy time handling the chaos of real-world client work.
So… my co-founder challenged me to train our AI engine (which we currently use for some client work, with their consent) to try out the latest CBLE exam. And let me tell you… the October 2025 CBLE exam was really hard, with a pass rate of 12%, far below the usual 30%. For reference, medical school entrance hover around ~45%, and the bar exam around ~60%.
For those who took the exam years ago, a reminder: to pass, you must score above 75%. That is, by any measure, difficult.
(I genuinely think import compliance is such an overlooked industry. We are essentially the lawyers of logistics, yet we’re often viewed as “cost centers”… more on that later.)
I love challenges, so I took this one on. I spent around 40 hours training 6,000 pages of material into our agent, “Ginger.” It turned out to be a great exercise—it improved our engine for other client work too!
After some final tuning last weekend, I put Ginger to the test, and… oh boy！
It breezed through the exam with 96.3% accuracy in just 23 minutes. I’d say that’s pretty impressive, aye?
